The Cows and Bulls of Rupanuga Bhajan Ashram

At the ashram we have a growing herd of desi cows and bulls who provide milk for Giriraja and gober for the garden and cooking. Both Go-mata and Dharmaraja (the bull) are an integral part of any ashram environment, especially in Vrindavan Dhama.

We maintain a growing herd of desi cows for the pleasure of the ashram deities and continue the example set by our acaryas of simple living with all the elements to promote higher thinking. Serving the cows and bulls certainly is pleasing to Sri Krsna.

The Gautamiya Tantra states, “One should gently scratch the body of a cow, offer her a mouthful of green grass and reverentially circumambulate her. If cows are maintained nicely and comfortably, Lord Gopala becomes pleased.”
