On the occasion of the annual festival of the worship of Goddess Durg\u0101, Hindu India has started feeling the pulse of a new national awakening. Grand arrangements for this festival are particularly seen in Bengal. In other states also this festival is observed in a different manner like Ca\u1e47\u1e0dik\u0101-navar\u0101tr\u012b etc. In order to attain victory over the ten-headed R\u0101va\u1e47a, \u015ar\u012b R\u0101macandra awoke the goddess for worship and pleased her during the period when the demigods are generally asleep. This \u015aar\u0101d\u012by\u0101 P\u016bj\u0101 has such a historical connection.<\/p>\n

Although we do not find this episode in the original V\u0101lm\u012bki R\u0101m\u0101ya\u1e47a<\/em>, it has been established on the basis of evidence found in the upa-pur\u0101\u1e47as<\/em>. This celebration has become famous as the \u015aar\u0101d\u012by\u0101 festival. However, originally this p\u016bj\u0101<\/em> occurred during Vasanta (springtime) and was the worship of Vasanti Dev\u012b.<\/p>\n

Thus, desirous of annihilating their powerful R\u0101va\u1e47a-like enemies, patriotic Indians enthusiastically feel a fundamental urge towards this act of worship. During this time, the land of the \u0100ryans known as Brahma-varta, which is glorified by sages like Manu etc. celebrates \u015ar\u012b R\u0101macandra\u2019s victory over Lanka with great pomp and ceremony.<\/p>\n

Generally, the Sakta community is naturally the most enthusiastic and takes great pleasure in this festival. But the majority of them are extremely dedicated to the keval\u0101dvaita-brahmav\u0101da<\/em> doctrine of \u015ar\u012b \u015aa\u1e45kar\u0101c\u0101rya. Thus, M\u0101y\u0101 or \u015aakti, according to their point of view, is accepted as non-eternal; therefore when we analyse this a little deeper, any endeavour to worship her becomes pointless.<\/p>\n

Despite the vulgar misconceptions of the Sm\u0101rtas and \u015aaktas, it is actually those whom they consider being averse to the worship of \u015aakti \u2013\u00a0namely the Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas \u2013\u00a0who actually have faith in the eternal position of \u015aakti under the guidance of the Energetic, and it is they that show respect for her eternal worship. The Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas feel honoured to call themselves \u015buddha<\/em> \u015aaktas (pure \u015aaktas) and they are fully aware that surrender to the service of the highest manifestation of the svar\u016bpa-\u015bakti<\/em> of the Supreme Energetic is the fundamental basis of bhajana<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Some worldly-minded research scholars have taken pleasure in proclaiming that \u015ar\u012b Caitanyadeva, the founder of Gau\u1e0d\u012bya Vai\u1e63\u1e47avism, was a covert T\u0101ntrika.<\/p>\n

Those who externally proclaim themselves to be \u015aaktas<\/em>, display grand arrangements and enthusiasm for the worship of \u015aakti, but ultimately they desire to merge themselves into the unknowable Brahman who is without any potency; they deny the eternality of \u015aakti and only accept the non-differentiated Brahman. However, they advertise themselves as \u015aaktas<\/em> amongst the society of common people who are incapable, inexperienced or disinclined to analyse such subtle topics. Will not those possessing sharp intelligence consider this to be a mockery of fate of this world?<\/p>\n

In such a situation, the Bh\u0101gavatas<\/em> that follow \u015ar\u012b Gau\u1e0d\u012bya dar\u015bana<\/em> are always interested and inclined to help the people of this world to reach a the proper understanding of the \u015b\u0101stra<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
