Pr\u0101k\u1e5bta-rasa \u0100ra\u1e47ya-Chedin\u012b<\/em> (Cutting the Jungle of Misconception) is a compilation of twenty-one articles that were written over a period of three years. Each of the articles disputes a particular misconception prevalent in the Gau\u1e0d\u012bya Vai\u1e63\u1e47ava world.<\/p>\n

The first chapter of the book begins by establishing the position of a Vai\u1e63\u1e47ava according to the opinion of \u015b\u0101stra<\/em> and the Supreme Lord \u015ar\u012b Caitanyadeva. Subsequent chapters of the book establish the Gau\u1e0d\u012bya siddh\u0101nta<\/em> (conclusive philosophical truths) according to guru (\u0101c\u0101ryas)<\/em>, s\u0101dhu<\/em>, and \u015b\u0101stra<\/em> (the spiritual master, saintly persons, and revealed scripture).<\/p>\n

Pr\u0101k\u1e5bta-rasa Ara\u1e47ya-Chedin\u012b<\/em> establishes the proper understanding of various controversial issues concerning; the origin of the j\u012bva<\/em>, the fall of the j\u012bva<\/em> into material bondage, the pure consciousness of the j\u012bva<\/em>, the position of the guru<\/em>, the Golden Age, the position of the Founder \u0100c\u0101rya<\/em>, the leader of the Gau\u1e0d\u012bya samprad\u0101ya<\/em>, the different types of disciples, the highest vision of guru-tattva<\/em>, the omniscience of the guru<\/em>, the highest aspiration of the liberated j\u012bva<\/em>, the process by which the j\u012bva<\/em> achieves the highest perfection, the titles of Prabhup\u0101da and Deva, the position of \u015ar\u012b Nity\u0101nanda Prabhu, the chanting of the Holy Name, the proper qualification (adhik\u0101ra<\/em>) for discussing higher l\u012bl\u0101s<\/em>, the stage of purification (anartha-niv\u1e5btti<\/em>), hearing from rasika-gurus<\/em>, who is actually a bona-fide \u0101c\u0101rya<\/em>, the divine sentiments of love of God, the highest standards of worship, and the instructions of liberated souls.<\/p>\n

By no means has Pr\u0101k\u1e5bta-rasa Ara\u1e47ya-Chedin\u012b<\/em> been written for the general public who have no background in K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a consciousness. Pr\u0101k\u1e5bta-rasa \u0100ra\u1e47ya-Chedin\u012b<\/em> is for the devotees of \u015ar\u012b Caitanyadeva who seek clarification or conclusive answers to some of the controversial issues in our contemporary Vai\u1e63\u1e47ava society.<\/p>\n

\u201cA sincere student should not neglect the discussion of such conclusions, considering them controversial, for such discussions strengthen the mind. Thus one\u2019s mind becomes attached to \u015ar\u012b K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a.\u201d (Cc. \u0100di<\/em>. 2.117)<\/p>\n

The conclusive truths put forth in Pr\u0101k\u1e5bta-rasa Ara\u1e47ya-Chedin\u012b<\/em> are according to \u0101c\u0101ryas<\/em> in the disciplic succession of \u015ar\u012bla Bhaktisiddh\u0101nta Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura. The statements and quotes found in this book are not the opinions of the conditioned souls of this world for such would have no value in the assembly of pure Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas.<\/p>\n

The inspiration for the title of this book came from \u015ar\u012bla Bhaktisiddh\u0101nta Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura, who at the beginning of the 20th<\/sup> century compiled a book entitled Pr\u0101k\u1e5bta-rasa \u015aata D\u016b\u1e63i\u1e47\u012b<\/em> (one hundred misconceptions of the sahajiy\u0101<\/em> mellows). Many of the verses composed in Pr\u0101k\u1e5bta-rasa \u015aata-Dusin\u012b<\/em> by \u015ar\u012bla Bhaktisiddh\u0101nta Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura are quoted in Pr\u0101k\u1e5bta-rasa Ara\u1e47ya-Chedin\u012b<\/em> \u2014the focus of which aims at exposing the defects of those who imitate the practices of the highest order of Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas.<\/p>\n

Prior to the appearance of \u015ar\u012bla Bhaktisiddh\u0101nta Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura the sahajiy\u0101 <\/em>movements and pseudo gurus<\/em> had all but ruined the good name of the Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas. Due to the improper behavior of rascals and imitators the word Vai\u1e63\u1e47ava<\/em> that was once held in great regard by societies\u2019 elite had completely fallen under foot and the Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas were thought to be bands of beggars and woman-hunters.<\/p>\n

To save the dignity of the highest order of Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas (paramaha\u1e41sas<\/em>) Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura preached strongly against the pseudo practices of all those who misrepresented the pure teachings of \u015ar\u012b Caitanyadeva. The strength and intensity of his preaching shook the very ground upon which his opponents stood. No one could continue to contend with him and soon the sahajiy\u0101s<\/em> and pseudo gurus<\/em> withered away in fear.<\/p>\n

Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura preached exclusively the pure mellows of m\u0101dhurya-rasa<\/em>, but to do so he had to cut the jungle of misconception. He reopened the storehouse of divine love and showed the way for all sincere souls to follow. It has been said by Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura\u2019s most intimate disciples that, \u201cHe spared gallons of blood to establish what is not the m\u0101dhurya-rasa<\/em>. Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura used perhaps 90% of his energy to point out what is not the m\u0101dhurya-rasa<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

P\u016bjala r\u0101ga-patha gaurava bha\u1e45ge<\/em>\u2014 the whole tenor of the life of Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura is captured in this verse: \u201cThe r\u0101ga-patha<\/em> is on our head. We are servants of the path of spontaneous love. We are in vidhi-m\u0101rga<\/em> under the rule of \u015b\u0101stra<\/em>, and we must always keep the r\u0101ga-patha<\/em> upon our head.<\/p>\n

Now close to a century after the preaching campaign of Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura came to a close, the sahajiy\u0101s<\/em> and pseudo gurus<\/em> are again stirring about, and various misconceptions have somehow crept into the minds of many aspiring devotees. By the blessings of \u015ar\u012bla Prabhup\u0101da Bhaktisiddh\u0101nta Sarasvat\u012b \u1e6ch\u0101kura this Pr\u0101k\u1e5bta-rasa Ara\u1e47ya-Chedin\u012b<\/em> will help guide sincere souls through the jungle of misconception to reach the path of pure devotion and thus attain the eternal loving service of \u015ar\u012b \u015ar\u012b R\u0101dh\u0101-Govinda.<\/p>\n
